Our story
Dream Sporting Gear, or DSG was founded two decades ago in Pune, born from the vision of passionate biker
Harjeet Singh Makkar.
DSG stands out as a more affordable, tailor made for India range of riding gear, while Alpinestars catered to big bike owners and motorcycling professionals, who acknowledge the value and unmatched safety only such top‐of‐the‐line safety apparel can provide.
DSG branded gear has been specially designed keeping in mind the individual requirements of Indian riders, and our unique riding conditions, with improvements incorporated over the years. DSG apparel is all hand‐stitched using select raw materials, with robust build quality to provide solid durability and ample safety. From day one, DSG has aimed to cater to price conscious riders, looking for high quality riding gear equipped with the latest safety technology.
We at DSG are the first Indian riding gear brand to invest in the Make in India Campaign. From being a largely import based company, we are now proudly producing our own Riding Gear in India.
Harjeet Singh Makkar
Founder
DSG was created as a solution to the founders problem: lack of safety gear available to riders locally in India. Growing up in a two-wheeler centric city Pune, our founder Harjeet Singh Makkar is a passionate biker and who aimed to create riding culture in India. In his youth he discovered his love for racing and learnt more about the industry from his close friend Shyam Kothari.
His fascination grew when he was gifted his first pair of Alpinestars riding boots but this also opened his eyes to the fact that no safety gear was available within India. In 2002, Harjeet started ‘Dream Bikes’, a bike dealership in Pune and soon after they were approached to assist in the shooting of popular Bollywood movie ‘Dhoom’. The movie was centered around bikes and Harjeet and his team assisted with everything from providing stuntmen.
After dealing with several import related complications and having to go to Singapore to buy new gear overnight, Harjeet decided to start his own riding gear brand- Dream Sporting Gear in 2005. Soon after he worked on Dhoom 2 and realised that importing superbikes to India was becoming a real struggle.
That’s when with the help of his friend and partner Suresh Babu, Harjeet worked with the government and helped change the import law for high cubic capacity motorcycles. He applied to the GFT (director general of foreign trade) to change the type of approval requirements to import high eng motorcycles. His efforts were fruitful and the law changed so that all motorcycles above 800CC were allowed to be imported under the open general license, thereby opening doors for all manufacturers to launch their high cubic capacity motorcycles in India in 2008.
